About The Role:
As the Director of Engineering, you will:
- Provide day-to-day leadership, mentoring, and performance management to a distributed engineering team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and learning.
- Define and implement our engineering roadmap in alignment with business objectives.
- Oversee architectural decisions and technical choices that will ensure the development of scalable, reliable, and secure systems, delivered on schedule.
- Develop engineering KPIs, manage sprints, and remove blockers to maintain velocity.
- Be hands-on enough to provide oversight, help write and review product and development design documents, perform code reviews, and set direction.
- Evaluate and integrate new technologies where appropriate.
- Keep current with industry trends and emerging technologies, especially in AI.
- Participate in budgeting and resource planning conversations with the CTO.

We also expect the right candidate to meet the following criteria:
- 8+ years in software engineering roles, including 3+ years in engineering leadership.
- Be proficient in tooling and practices around industry-standard generative AI systems.
- Have a track record of managing and scaling engineering teams in a high-growth environment.
- Have strong development skills in modern programming languages, such as python.
- Have deep familiarity with cloud services (AWS/GCP), distributed systems, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Have a strong understanding of relational databases, like Postgres and MySQL.
- Possess strong organizational and project management abilities.
- Demonstrate excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Possess an analytical mind, with a bias for action and pragmatic problem-solving.
- Are interested and excited by the challenges and opportunities of startup life.
